Project 082 - His Majesty’s Christian Academy – Philippines

The children representing many countries rode on tricycles through their urban village and past their homes.

I don’t know how many children live here but some families in the Philippines have as many as 15. They love to dress up and where the mothers could not afford to help the teachers made the costumes below.

How do you choose the best dressed child? Thankfully I was not the judge!

Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Prov. 22:6

Dear Friends,

Last year I received a request from Mrs Lillian Viray who is well known to Siloam. She was sending me some photos of the students of a new school started by her family for children aged 3 to 6 years old. Mrs Viray was inviting Siloam to find sponsors for 20 children. They need the money for books, writing materials and snacks. A small fee is charged for those parents who can afford it but many cannot as they have no work.

The mission and vision of His Majesty’s Christian Academy was to give these children a strong foundation in their lives, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. They were using Mrs Viray’s own home which has several rooms on the ground floor. There are four teachers and these receive an allowance each month. One of the teachers is the daughter of Mrs Viray.

Mrs Viray describes herself as their guidance counsellor, book keeper and cashier.

I visited the school last October. The children were celebrating United Nations Day and paraded through the streets of their Barangay or urban village in Quezon City. There are more than 20 of the 38 children needing assistance. I was impressed by the dedication and love the teachers had for these little ones, many of them coming from very large families. Because the families came to the village hall I was unable to visit the children in their homes.

When I call on them later this year I will be visiting the families and subsequently sharing some of their stories in this page.

If you would like further details as to how to sponsor one of these children please contact us.
