Christian Social Work Ministry, Peru - Project 076

This project provides better homes for impoverished families in the Comas area, a suburb of Lima about an hour by car away from the centre of the capital city.

In 2016, six houses were constructed by 5 individual donors, one of whom provided two homes. Teresinha and myself visited Peru in April 2017 and we had the pleasure of seeing all the six houses and met the 6 families who were very happy for these new homes to be donated to them to live in. In May 2020, we provided funds for one new house and there are funds available from UK sponsors whom we hope will provide yet more houses during 2021.

The total cost of a new house at the time of writing (October 2020) is just £2,500. The homes come complete with beds and simple furniture and kitchen equipment. The buildings themselves are constructed of chipboard and insulation is not really required because of the climate. The roof is constructed of corrugated iron sheeting, which is adequate for the need. As Comas is situated on the edge of the desert, rainfall is a rarity as you can see from the brown landscape in our photograph. Electricity and a water supply is also provided.

Obviously, if more supporters would like to contribute towards the cost of providing a poor family with a new home, we can construct homes for waiting families. Gifts of £50, £20, £10 when accumulated together can add up to the total needed for a new home for a deserving family - £2,500. Also, some generous benefactors may want to donate the cost of a complete home.

Please remember to ‘gift aid’ your donation so as to increase the value by 25%.

A number of supporters in the past have chosen to honour a departed ‘loved one' by dedicating a new home in their memory. What a wonderful way to remember and ‘eulogize in a practical way’ a spouse, partner or friend by providing shelter for a deserving family in Peru.
