Project 067 - Critical Care Programme India

Between 11 am and 12 pm the children will play educational games and make use of toys which were donated after the Tsunami tragedy.

Just think of it, 40% of all children under 5 in The Two Thirds World suffer from malnutrition. Please send your gift today and enrol as a partner in our Critical Care Programme.

Siloam's Critical Care Programme in South India

One of the few positive actions to come out of the Boxing Day Tsunami disaster was the inception of our Critical Care Programme in South India for children under 5.

Although the Tsunami took the lives of over 225,000 people in the affected zone, we have to remember that worldwide every 24 hours as many as 40,000 children die of malnutrition and hunger related diseases.

In Chennai formerly known as 'Madras' we operate two small hospitals. Part of the doctors' regular routine is the examination of school children in the area. If you were to ask any of our doctors they will tell you that the biggest health problem for the children is malnutrition and worms.

On 7th of April it was my privilege to inaugurate Siloam's first Critical Care Programme in the village of Pudupetu on behalf of Siloam and our partners Childcare International in Canada and USA. We have initially selected 50 children between the ages of 3 and 5 who will come 5 days a week to a centre staffed by volunteers from a local church. The children will receive a nutritious meal as well as snacks containing vitamins and minerals to boost their immune systems. The volunteers will also take the opportunity to tell the children about Jesus Christ and share with them in a Sunday school type environment.

Once a week a doctor from one of our hospitals will come to the centre. They will keep a medical record of each child and a chart showing their progress. At the same time they will also take care of any medical needs that might occur.

The project will run for one year until the children are out of the danger zone and at the end of the 12 months' project, we hope that some of the children will want to be accepted into our child sponsorship programme.

You may well ask the question, what will all this cost? I can tell you very little!

To take care of one child for a month will cost just £9.00. It will cost £54.00 to support a child for 6 months and only £108.00 to support a youngster for the whole duration of the programme.

We feel this is a critically needed programme which is why we have named it appropriately, we believe it's the best way to describe this outreach of compassion to these little ones.

I believe like us you have a passion to help children in life and to try and get them to help themselves. But before they can do this, we need to help them survive.

Today, I want to ask you to become part of this programme to help children survive. If you like, you could make a commitment for just £8.00 a month for the next 12 months or perhaps you could offer to pay for the whole amount of a child's programme or just part of it. Whatever you can do will simply help a child survive so, I do hope you will want to become part of our Critical Care Programme in South India.

Yours sincerely
